Where is the wedding happening?
Our wedding will be celebrated on Peaks Island, a small island just off the coast of Portland, Maine. On the wedding day, you’ll take a short 20-minute ferry ride from downtown Portland to get there—then the venue is just a 5-minute walk from the ferry dock.
Where should I stay?
Definitely stay on the mainland in Portland for easy commuting to the ferry station and the weekend’s other events. We have some suggestions for spots to stay over on our Travel page.
Can I stay on Peaks Island?
While Peaks Island is beautiful, it’s pretty small with limited lodging and dining options. You’d also need to bring a car over on the ferry (which costs about $160 round trip) and spots sell out quickly. Since most events are happening in Portland and everything there is walkable, it’s much easier to stay in the Old Port area. Plus, there’s a lot more going on there than on the island.
How do we get to the wedding on Peaks Island?
On the big day, everyone will take the Casco Bay Lines ferry from Portland to Peaks.
Guests staying in Old Port hotels are a short walk from the ferry terminal.
If you’re staying elsewhere, we recommend taking an Uber or Lyft to the dock.
The ferry ride is about 20 minutes, and we’ll share the specific ferry time closer to the date. Just plan to arrive at least 10 minutes before departure.
When should I book?
The hotel rooms block is coming soon (we swear!) In the meantime, feel free to book from the accommodation options over on our Travel page. We recommend booking early just to make sure things don’t get booked up.
Is Portland easy to get around without a car?
The Old Port is very walkable, with great restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and boutique shops all within a few blocks. For anything further, Ubers and Lyfts are easy to lock down.
Where should I fly into?
PWM (Portland Jetport) lands you right into Portland close to accommodation options and the Old Port area. You can also fly into Boston’s Logan Airport and take a Concord Coach bus (around 2 hours) to Portland if you prefer. Flights into Boston are a little bit less expensive.
What’s “the Old Port”? Is that different from Portland?
Great question! The Old Port is a small, historic strip along the waterfront in downtown Portland. It’s the heart of the city and where all the action is. Think cobblestone streets, restaurants, shops, and beautiful harbor views. It’s also where our welcome + farewell events will take place and where the ferry to Peaks Island departs.
Basically, Old Port = downtown Portland, near the water.
Can I book an Airbnb instead?
Oh definitely! Just be sure to book somewhere that isn’t too far from the festivities and the ferry. Also keep in mind that parking near the ferry terminal is limited, so we recommend taking an Uber or Lyft to the dock and the Old Port for the big day and surrounding events.
How do I get to Portland, Maine?
You’ve got options 😎
By plane: Fly into the Portland International Jetport (PWM) and land right in Portland.
By bus or train: New York folks, there’s a Concord Coach Lines bus that goes directly from NYC to Portland. Or you can Amtrak Downeaster to Portland. There is also a Concord Coach Lines bus from Boston’s South Station to Portland.
From Boston: If flights to Boston are cheaper, you can take a Concord Coach Lines bus (around 2 hours) directly from Logan Airport to Portland.
Why Maine?
Maine is where Don grew up and where his parents still live, so it’s always been a special place for us. Over the years, Julia’s grown to love it just as much—we visit every summer and winter, and it’s become a second home. We especially love Peaks Island, where we’ve spent countless days golf-carting, walking, and watching the sunset over the water. It felt like the perfect place to celebrate with all of you and share a bit of Maine’s magic.
Not to mention, Maine is where Don asked Julia to be his girlfriend and (years later) where he asked her to marry him!
How do we get back from the island after the wedding?
We’ve got that covered…We’ll be using a dedicated ferry after the wedding to both drop folks off in Portland and have a little afterparty for those who want to stay on board!
What’s happening each day?
Friday: Welcome gathering in Portland’s Old Port
Saturday: Wedding on Peaks Island and afterparty cruising around Casco Bay
Sunday: Farewell gathering back in the Old Port
What’s the kid policy?
We can’t wait to celebrate with the whole family! Little ones are invited to the welcome and farewell gatherings. For the wedding itself, we kindly ask that only children ages 6 and up attend so everyone (parents included!) can fully enjoy the evening.
When can I RSVP?
We will open up RSVPing on Zola once we send out invitations, so keep an eye out for our invites coming in ‘26!
